The Callabriga DOC Douro Vinho Tinto is an elegant and intense red wine from the renowned Douro region, produced by Casa Ferreirinha, one of Portugal’s most historic wineries. The carefully hand-picked grapes come from selected plots of Quinta da Leda in the Douro Superior, as well as nearby vineyards with optimal ripeness. After destemming and gentle crushing, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks or robotic lagares with extended maceration at controlled temperatures. The wine then ages for twelve months in a combination of used French oak barrels (75%) and new American oak barrels (25%).
With a deep ruby-red color, the wine reveals a complex bouquet of ripe red fruits such as currants and strawberries, along with dark fruit notes like plums. Floral hints of rockrose and spicy touches of pepper and curry, derived from barrel aging, add further complexity. On the palate, it presents a refined body, high-quality tannins, well-integrated acidity, and a long, layered finish.
For the best experience, Callabriga should be served at a temperature of 16–18°C. It pairs excellently with red meats, game dishes, and intensely aged cheeses. After two years of bottle aging, it is recommended to stand the bottle upright the day before and decant before serving. While enjoyable in its youth, Callabriga benefits from 3 to 5 years of bottle aging and reaches its peak around 8 years. Under optimal conditions, it can be stored for up to 15 years.
The Callabriga DOC Douro Vinho Tinto combines tradition and innovation from the Douro region, offering an authentic and versatile wine experience.
