The Soalheiro Reserva Alvarinho Vinho Verde DOC is an outstanding white wine from the renowned Vinho Verde region in the northwest of Portugal, specifically from the Monção e Melgaço subregion. This single-variety wine is made exclusively from the Alvarinho grape, known for its aromatic intensity and freshness. The grapes come from selected, organically farmed vineyards that are protected by a unique microclimate, offering optimal conditions for the ripening of the Alvarinho grapes.
The winemaking process begins with the manual harvest of the grapes, followed by a gentle pressing. The must is then decanted for 48 hours before undergoing controlled fermentation in French oak barrels. The wine remains in contact with its fine lees for 12 months, with regular bâtonnage to enhance texture and complexity. About 25% of the barrels used are new, while the rest are used barrels, some of which were part of Soalheiro’s initial experiments in 1995.
The result is a wine with an intense golden-yellow color and an elegant, lasting aroma that preserves the freshness and fruitiness of the Alvarinho grape while integrating the subtle nuances of oak aging. On the palate, the Soalheiro Reserva displays remarkable structure and complexity, with a harmonious interplay of fruit, acidity, and wood.
This wine pairs excellently with dishes traditionally matched with red wines, such as fatty fish, red meats, game, poultry, or dishes with creamy sauces and mushrooms. It also pairs wonderfully with Asian and Mediterranean cuisine.
The Soalheiro Reserva Alvarinho Vinho Verde DOC is an excellent example of the high quality and potential of the Alvarinho grape in the Vinho Verde region and offers an exceptional tasting experience for wine enthusiasts.
